Kashmir Tour Itinerary: Srinagar, Gulmarg & Pahalgam in 6 Days
Discover "Paradise on Earth" with this 6-day Kashmir itinerary — Dal Lake shikara rides, Gulmarg gondola, Pahalgam valleys, and Sonmarg. Ideal for honeymooners and families.
Day 1
Tue, Dec 15, 2026
Srinagar's Sheikh ul-Alam Airport is about 15km from the Dal Lake houseboat area. December nights drop below freezing — pack heavy thermals, a down jacket, and waterproof boots. Most houseboats include breakfast and dinner in the tariff.
Dal Lake, Srinagar
A leisurely paddle past floating gardens, the Mughal-era Char Chinar island, and rows of houseboats — the classic Kashmir welcome. Sunset light (around 4:30pm in December) is the best time to go.
Settle in for a Kashmiri Wazwan dinner and a kangri (traditional fire-pot) to keep warm — most first nights are kept deliberately unplanned after a travel day.
Day 2
Wed, Dec 16, 2026
Boulevard Rd, Nishat, Srinagar, 191121
The larger and arguably more scenic of Srinagar's Mughal terraced gardens, built in 1633 with Dal Lake and the Zabarwan hills as a backdrop.
Chinar chowk, Shalimar, Srinagar, 191121
Built by Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan — smaller than Nishat but with the more famous black-pavilion centrepiece.
3VJG+FVC, near Pari Mahal Parking, Srinagar, 191121
A hidden gem — a Mughal-era terraced garden built as an astrological school, perched on a hillside with the best panoramic view over Dal Lake and the city of any spot in Srinagar, and far fewer visitors than the gardens below.
35, Polo View Road, Regal Chowk, Kothi Bagh, Srinagar, 190001
Srinagar's best-known shopping street for pashmina shawls, walnut-wood carving and saffron — bargaining is expected.
Dal Lake, Srinagar
Dal Lake at golden hour, quieter than the morning crowds — a slower, more photogenic version of Day 1's ride.
Day 3
Thu, Dec 17, 2026
Alambal Road, Gulmarg, Forest Block, 193403
One of the highest cable cars in the world, in two stages up Mount Apharwat — on a clear day Phase 2 gives views toward Nanga Parbat. December is early ski season, so expect snow underfoot even at the base.
If anyone in your group wants to try skiing or snowboarding, gear rental and beginner lessons are available at the base station — entirely optional, and easy to skip in favour of just sledding on the meadow instead.
Day 4
Fri, Dec 18, 2026
The Srinagar–Sonmarg road can close temporarily after heavy snowfall — check locally the night before, and go with a driver experienced on winter roads. A private cab with snow-ready tyres is worth the extra cost in December.
Sonamarg, Forest Block, 191202
"The meadow of gold" — a pony ride or a moderate walk up from Sonmarg town reaches the glacier's edge, with pine forests and the Sindh River along the way.
Day 5
Sat, Dec 19, 2026
Chandanwari Rd, Chandanwari, Pahalgam, 192126
Named after the 1983 Bollywood film shot here — a wide meadow ringed by pine forest and the Lidder River, with pony rides available.
Pahalgam, Aru, 192126
Quieter and more forested than Betaab, and the starting point for treks to Kolahoi Glacier and Lidderwat in summer — in December it's a peaceful, snow-dusted village instead.
Day 6
Sun, Dec 20, 2026
Deliberately kept free — sleep in, or take one last unhurried walk along the Dal Lake boulevard before packing up.
Nowhatta Kathi Darwaza Road, Nowhatta, Srinagar, 190003
A 14th-century mosque in the old city, built around a courtyard of over 370 wooden pillars — a quiet, atmospheric stop even for non-worshippers.
Build in at least 3 hours before your flight — Srinagar's winter fog and occasional snowfall are a common cause of delays in December, so an earlier check-in buffer is worth it. Saffron, dried apricots, and a pashmina shawl are the classic parting buys.
